REVIEW: Ozzie Rizzo Argan Oil 50ml

image1 (2)

I was given this to try by Ozzie and thought to myself not another hair oil, but then I tried it and have fallen in love with Argan Oil all over again.

If you haven’t heard of Ozzie Rizzo here’s a quick background. Ozzie and his two brothers started their hairdressing career at Vidal Sassoon in the glory days and trained alongside Trevor Sorbie and others you’d recognise. Ozzie soon become the youngest Creative Director at Vidal Sassoon at the age of 21 with 60 stylist’s under him.  In the 80’s Ozzie and his brothers founded Sanrizz leaders in the industry with 10 salons and a hairdressing Academy. Ozzie has two stand alone boutique salons called Ozzie Rizzo in Mayfair and Richmond however they are still all part of the Sanrizz group. The brothers are respected in the hair industry and are the guy’s behind the Alternative Hair Show (raising money for leukaemia now in it’s 33rd year)

The Product: The packaging is clean and streamlined, with Ozzie’s logo. It’s in a plastic container with a high quality finish, a silver lid and a good size push down pump applicator. The base of the product has weight to it which means it won’t keep toppling over, nice touch! Also the side of the bottle has a little “window” a bit like an ink pen does, so you can see the amount you have left. All in all my first impressions are good, the packaging is impressive so to me this means quality.

It can be used on damp or dry hair and is a combination of 3 oils that add spectacular shine and smoothness to the hair. It also reduces drying time when applied to towel dried hair.

My Verdict: The smell is sweet which is quite strong luckily it fades when dried into the hair which is great. The consistency is light and not gloopy. I tried it on the back of my hand first. It absorbs into your skin quite quickly leaving your skin feeling smooth without any greasiness-and thought this is going to be amazing in my hair!

Trial One: I applied to towel dried hair, one pump (may need two pumps for long hair) rubbed into the palm of my hands, then I applied to my hair evenly from mid-lengths to ends. Dried my hair as I normally do (get moisture out first then smooth with a denman brush in three sections) My hair did actually dry quicker and was easy to manage, when dry it was looking sleek with no fly-aways, I’m really happy with the results.

Trial Two: This time I applied to clean dry styled hair, again one small pump rubbed into the palms of my hands and applied evenly to my mid lengths and ends, then lightly smoothed my parting (only do this after when you have very little product on your palms) My hair looks very shiny and smooth without weighing it down or looking heavy. The only thing I’m not keen on is the smell.

Summary: This is a nice hair oil, it’s light, versatile and does exactly what it’s mean’t to do. I don’t think I will re-purchase however I had compliments all day at work from my customers noticing I have shiny hair for a blonde!

What hair oils do you use? Would love to hear about them.

Review: Pureology Hydrate Hydra Whip Masque 150ml

image

photo (1)

My hair is starting to feel dry which is normal at this time of year as the air gets cooler outside and the central heating get’s cranked up inside, also due to using hair irons when l’m at work (it’s the only way to quickly remove all my helmet hair kinks)

I’ve started using this hydrating masque as a daily conditioner after shampooing leaving it in my hair (mid-lengths and ends) for 2 minutes before rinsing out.

This masque has been formulated for hydration and helps to keep coloured hair vibrant due to the clever anti-fade technology. It helps restore suppleness however I use Philip Kingsley Elasticizer to restore suppleness and elasticity about 2-3 times a month as a treatment.

Hydra Whip is great for adding moisture to your hair without weighing it down and keeping it looking shiny and bright. The texture of this masque feels different like it’s been whipped, it’s all kinda light and airy as you massage into your lengths, it feels good. The smell is nice, to me it’s fruity/floral scent which doesn’t linger in your hair after drying.

I really like this masque as a moisture boost when my hair needs it and I’m sure it will make it on my empties list, it’s half empty already.

It costs around £25 in most salon’s, however, you can find good deals on-line like Look Fantastic £18.85

Have you tried any of pureology’s shampoo’s/conditioner’s or masque’s? I’d love to hear your experiences.

The history behind Philip Kingsley’s Elasticizer and Audrey Hepburn

photo

Since I’ve been working at Liberty London lot’s of my work mates and old client’s I bump into whilst they are shopping in store talk to me about the condition of their hair and ask me to recommend a good hair treatment…

If you are a regular reader or have worked with me in a hair salon you will know that I have an all time “go to” product that simply works: Philip Kingsley Elasticizer. I talk about it all the time on social media and have blogged about it before. Elasticizer apart from being a fantastic product has a wonderful story behind it too. Philip (a leading trichologist with clinics in London/New York) counted Audrey Hepburn as a client in the early 1970’s who instantly become a dear friend and regular client of his until she passed away in 1993. She was booked to see Philip as she needed a treatment to repair/prevent damage to her hair as she was wearing wig’s for stage and the friction was causing damage. Philip got to work on a hair treatment prescribed for her needs which indeed was the original elasticizer.

I met Philip in 2012 at a hair event celebrating the launch of the Daily Damage Defence Spray. I had the pleasure of hearing his story first hand and about his first meeting with Audrey Hepburn. She was booked into his NY clinic under the name Mrs Dotti as she was married to an Italian doctor of that name at the time. Philip is so endearing I could listen to his knowledge/wisdom/stories all day, he is a true gentleman with a wonderful family and a great team behind him. He told me when she arrived for her first consultation she was sat across his desk, he was filling out her details checking all was correct when he suddenly put his pen down looked up from his desk and said “please forgive me for saying but I must say you have an extraordinary resemblance to Audrey Hepburn?” She replied rather sweetly “I am Audrey Hepburn” the rest is history…

Elasticizer (name was given in 1980) has gone on to be the best selling in all of the PK ranges becoming the “hero” product and multi-award winning all over the World.

Read all about Philip’s teachings in his book (I own one of course) Philip Kingsley The Hair Bible. Check out his full product range or find out about his clinic’s and prescriptive product range here. You can read Philip’s tips for applying elasticizer here.

Hope you’ve enjoyed this post. Have you tried Elasticizer or any other of the fabulous PK products yet?

review: oribe bright blonde shampoo & conditioner for beautiful colour

Being a bottle blonde I like to keep my blonde hair looking bright and sparkly. I use a tonning shampoo and conditoner a couple of times per month to keep my colour looking it’s best. Oribe (pronounced or-bay) if you didn’t already know is a Session Stylist from Miami based in New York, he’s a pretty cool dude you should look him up, anyway on to the products…

oribe

Oribe’s Bright Blonde Shampoo and Conditioner for Beautiful Colour do exactly what they say they will do. The packaging is their iconic bottles (designed by Versace) and the smell of these violet hue products are of course Oribe’s signature scent “Côte D’azur” which you can buy as a hair perfume aerosol or as an Eau De Parfum to wear on your skin.

This shampoo and conditioner has the same performance as their amazing Beautiful Colour range but with added violet pigments to cancel out yellow or brassy tones to blonde/grey or brunette hair restoring it to it’s most brilliant self. Of course it is free of sulphates, parabens, sodium chloride, gluten and animal testing.

After using theses my hair is instantly hydrated and sparkly bright blonde. I tend to use occasionaly however, you can use as your regular shampoo.conditioner as they contain clever technology that prevents pigmentation build up.

They are luxury hair products on the inside and out which reflect the price point starting from £39, in my opinion they are totally worth it and look stunning in your bathroom or on your dressing table. Just to add they are packaged in beautiful embossed cream boxes which look pretty but not really necessary. Oribe

EIMI Dry Shampoo is the BEST Dry Shampoo on the market, Yes REALLY!!

Wella have recently launched an exciting new product line like no other they’ve launched before. EIMI enables you to mix things up and get individual results!

The packaging is modern and fresh with cool names that are self explainitrty, each product is cleverly grouped under which finish you want and level of hold so it’s so easy to pick out what you need!

Here are the groups: Volume, Smooth, Texture, Shine, Fixing (hairsprays) On each product there are 4 little circles at the the top, the coloured in circle indicate the level of hold 1 being less and 4 being most, it’s that easy.

So I’m testing EIMI DRY ME a level 1 hold dry shampoo which obsorbs unwanted oil and adds a little va va voom in a matte finish. You simply shake me, spray me, style me, use it on dry hair and brush through.

The results: I love this, I repeat I LOVE this, I’ve tried many a dry shampoo and always hate the gritty residue it leaves behind making my hair feel dirty which kinda defeats the object. But this product just get’s it spot on! It soaks up oily roots and adds a bit of volume to my lank flyaway hair, it smells slightly fruity or floral-ish without being offensive (like some drugstore brands) and most importantly leaves my hair feeling clean/fresh which I’m able to swoosh about!!! Not that of hair that look’s all dull and gritty like I’ve been on a building site. And the pastel colours look pretty on my dressingtable. My husband likes to use it to add a bit of lift to his quiff.

I’m giving this product a big FAT YES! I can’t wait to try some of the others in the range, I’ve heard that the PERFECT ME lightweight BB Lotion is amazing!

Have you tried any of the EIMI range from Wella yet?

A little TLC for your hair: Bumble and bumble Hairdresser’s INVISIBLE OIL Shampoo & Conditioner

Bumble and bumble’s Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil shampoo and conditioner are renowned for being lightweight, non-greasy and sulphate free.

I don’t use Bb’s shampoo and conditioner on a regular basis however I absolutely LOVE these for when my hair needs a moisture boost, in particular following a colour session.

To start with they smell absolutely gorgeous and I find them to be highly nourishing without weighing down my fine brittle hair. It must be down to the 6 scrumptious featherlight oils they contain, yes that’s right 6!!! coconut oil, argan oil, macadamia but oil, sweet almond oil, safflower seed oil and grapeseed oil.

After using these my hair always feels soft and nourished without looking greasy. They are great at detangling my comb glides through my wet hair like a hot knife through butter. Hair is at it’s most fragile when wet, it’s easy to cause damage if you are tugging and pulling.

*Top Tip* Shampoo your hair as soon as you step into the shower and apply your conditioner – then proceed to cleanse your body/exfoliate and whatever else it is you do in the shower!

Always make rinsing your hair out to be your last job, this way you’ve given your conditioner time to penetrate and allow the steam of the shower to work it’s magic! If you can bear it finish with a cool rinse to add extra shine to your hair and wake up your skin!

Give them a try from £23 here

Percy & Reed Volumising No Oil Oil 30ml

A sample of Percy & Reed Volumising No Oil Oil arrived with Elle Magazine June edition. I do love a tester that’s worth testing…hopefully this is one of them.

IMG_9409.JPGThe Promise:
A lifesaver for fine/limp hair types leaving your hair smooth, sleek and shiny while adding volume.

The science Bit:
Contains violet extract which is nourishing/repairing plus added pro vitamin B5 which helps strengthen your hair and protect it from heat damage.

My Verdict:
I’m intrigued, an oil that’s not oily? Well the consistency looks/feels like water and when rubbed onto the back of my hand it’s clear and non sticky and quickly kind of evaporates! Now I’n definitely excited to try it out on my fine flat hair. The smell is like that of old lady talk (sorry guys! I usually love flowery smells) luckily once dry in your hair you don’t smell it anymore.

Two pumps applied on damp clean hair from root to tip, then I styled as normal. Wow! I can see the results instantly. My hair is noticeably shiny and bouncy and very bright and sparkly looking. It’s by no means weighed down and had managed to tame my flyaways. It feels like I don’t have any product in my hair which is a big YES FAT for me.

I’m pleasantly surprised how much I really like this product, it suits my hair type well and is so easy to use.

Thanks for the freebie ELLE magazine! Hurry if you wanna get yours, it’s the UK June Edition.

Have you tried it yet? Or have any other Percy & Reed products become your staple hair products, I’d love to hear from you.

Poof it up! with Kevin Murphy POWDER.PUFF 14g

2015/04/img_3142.jpgI gave this cute little powder puff a try out the other night when I was going out straight after work and wanted a little root lift in my hair after I took my crash helmet off. (I’ve forever got helmet hair!!!!)

This hair powder is quite different to others on the market as it’s a metamorphosis product – it begins as a powder and turns into a styling product which makes it quite unique. Here’s my review:

The Promise:
Need an instant poof in a jar! A look that is a favourite for “bedroom hair” To create a messy casual volume, gently tap a few shakes on the hair that you want body on, and the powder morphs into a product that holds.

The Science Bit:
Creates Volume, Dry Matte Texture, Weightless, Metamorphosis Product, Apple, Plum, Cranberries and Citrus extracts, Setting lotion encapsulated in a sphere of powder. It’s also 100% cruelty free!

My Verdict:
The packaging is cute and it’s easy to apply so thankfully no sticky mess! The smell is very light and delicate a bit herby, which completely goes away when in your hair which I think is a good thing for this type of product.

Section off your hair at the roots and sprinkle the powder along each section at the roots by tapping the powder puff, it’s that easy tap, tap, tap!
Gently rub into the root area, as you do this the very fine powder (it’s so fine it’s not like a powder its more the texture of lightly sieved icing sugar) turns into a volumising product with guts to give lots of lift. Hair is instantly revitalised and full of volume without looking like you have any product in. Hair still appears smooth and soft, I LOVE it! The only thing I personally don’t like is how my hair feels when I touch it, but hey that’s just me!

Summary:
This is a genius product and does exactly what it say’s it does and delivers on all of it’s promises. I’ve read a couple reviews of others that found it disappointing but in my opinion those were the ones who’s expectation was that of a dry shampoo and therefore completely missed the unique point of this little gem! I will definitely repurchase this product, get yours here £18

My Verdict:
It goes on damp hair before styling. Spray a few spritz, comb through and go about your normal styling routine. It smells nice, perhaps a bit too floral/fruity for some. The smell kinda takes me back to my early teens reminding me of the scents of The Body Shop, like Dewberry!!!

It feels really good in the hair and not like you have any product at all. The smell is nice not overly strong , it fades a to a subtle scent when your hair is dry. When my hair is dry this blonde fine hair of mine isn’t fluffy and it feels silky and looks shiny with no static! So far so good! I’ve only used it a couple of times so will need to use over a longer period to see the full results such as the Antifade Complex®

Summary:
I think this is a genius product and as all Pureology products the quality of ingredients are high and the results speak for themselves! All Pureology ingredients are 100% Vegan.

This will definitely become a holiday “must have” for me this year as it’s an all in one multi tasking hair Beautifier you can’t go wrong with this thrown in your beach bag along with your SPF and Tangle Teezer!
