Forest & Shore 100% Organic Vegan Friendly Hair Oil |secondblonde

IMG_4309I was really happy to receive a new hair product to try out and review. Forest & Shore are new kids on the block with a very special 100% certified organic and vegan friendly hair oil. Who doesn’t love a new hair oil…

Hallelujah Hair Oil: On first impressions the packaging is minimal and looks great on my shelf. It comes in a box with a design of simple sketches of pretty botanicals. I love the glass bottle the oil is in and the pipette applicator. I’m a fan of the pharmaceutical style packaging and it reminds me of skin care the way you drop he oil into your palm before applying to your hair.

I used it on clean towel dried hair before I styled my hair. I used about 5 drops, warmed in my palms then applied to my mid-lengths and ends coating the hair evenly (less is more here) The smell is gorgeous I feel like I’m having a mini spa experience. I noticed that the drying time was quicker and my hair looked and felt glossy and nourished without any heaviness or oily residue. It also hung nicer (I’ve got fine flyaway prone hair) and this oil made it all swishy!

It’s a beautiful product that does what it say’s it will do. It contains a blend of coconut, sesame, olive, sunflower & arnica and is scented with rosemary & lavender. Forest & Shore never test on animals, all products are vegan friendly & free from all harsh chemicals including synthetic fragrances, synthetic colours, parabens, sulphates, silicones, EDTA, & mineral oils.

The Hallelujah Hair Oil has become part of my daily haircare routine. I’m looking forward to also using it as a Intense Hair Reboot by massaging the oil into your scalp and throughout your hair from tips to ends then sleep in it and shampoo out in the morning.

You can purchase via amazon here £15.99

Find Out Why Davines Aftersun SU/Hair Mask will see me into the winter months | secondblonde

img_7629

Summer may be well and truly over. British Summer Time has officially come to an end with the clocks going back yesterday giving us an extra hour in bed! However this SU/Hair Mask by Davines just keeps on giving…

It’s an aftersun mask that doubles up as an anti-ageing treatment for all hair types, win win. It replaces moisture and leaves your hair soft and shiny. The smell is a floral, fruity, woody fragrance which is very lovely – to me it smells like sweets. Apply to your hair after shampooing, it’s light enough to use from roots to tips if you wish. It will do it’s stuff between 5-15 minutes depending on your hair needs. I pretty much use mine on a regular basis and only need to leave it on 5 mins in the shower while I cleanse my face and wash my body.

SU/hair mask contain natural active ingredients: Chinotto (from Savona) anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory action and Shea Butter for a nourishing effect.

You may be wondering what anti-ageing has got to do with hair care? Well when your hair is longer it means it’s older hair, so most of us that have medium or long hair have hair that’s a few years old – therefore it needs a lot more nourishment to keep it manageable and healthy looking just like skin does.

Summary I love this mask as it’s quick and easy to use in the toothpaste style packaging, it’s very nourishing but also very light so it  doesn’t weigh down my fine hair yet moisturising enough to prevent my hair getting static and flyaway. I started using it at the end of August and still have loads left. It’s a great product that will probably see me through to the end of the year and really good value at £19.30 for 150ml here

Hope you’ve enjoyed this post.

Color Wow Kale Cocktail bionic tonic 200ml | secondblonde

I was so happy to have been sent these new Color Wow products thanks to Imagination PR which I’ve been playing around with and finally got round to share my thoughts with you guys. These new hair cocktails are such a fun way to apply a “bond reinforcing” product to your hair.

You may have already watched me talk about these fantastic new colour wow products on my YouTube Channel

The whole range of cocktails are leave-in bond building supplements formulated for colour treated hair. Depending on which one you use they either strengthen, thicken, renew elasticity, retain suppleness, protect and prevent further damage. You can even mix them together like you would a cocktail for what your hair needs. I’ve been using the Kale Cocktail for my processed fine/prone to breakage hair for a few weeks and I absolutely LOVE it!

The Proudct The Kale cocktail is a bionic tonic which contains sulphur rich sea kale known to help reinforce hair vital bonds. It also contains protein building amino acid and vitamin B which works in one single application. The Kale cocktail can be mixed with the coconut or the carb cocktail for when your hair may need an extra hydrating or body building boost! You must shake before use and for best results the product is accelerated and enhanced when heat is applied.

The Promise The kale Cocktail promises to reinforce hair bonds and strengthen each strand. Detangle hair, help reduce further breakage and help guard against UV ray’s.

My Verdict I’ve been applying a small amount (of shaken not stirred product) to towel dried hair mid lengths to ends combed through then styled as normal with my hair dryer. On work day’s I do apply hair irons too to smooth out my crash helmet kinks. The consistency is light and milky and easy to apply, it’s not sticky and smells really fresh and pleasant to use. When my hair is dry/styled it doesn’t feel like I have any product in it (which is a good thing) however there is a noticeable difference in how my hair hairs/looks/feels. It instantly looks healthier, feels stronger and is soft and smooth to touch without being fluffy.

Summary I love this product so much and have already recommended it to a few friends. My husband who’s a hair colourist – you can check him out here has also started using it on some of his clients post colouring services. I will definitely re-purchase this product however in the meantime I will experiment with the coconut and carb cocktails too!

You can pick them up at a John Frieda hair salon or online here £22 Have you tried these or any other products from the Color Wow range?

Review: Davines NouNou Shampoo and Hair Mask

IMG_1206Davines (pronounced da va ness) is a family run company in Italy founded 20 years ago. I was first introduced to some of the products in this brand about 10 years ago when I worked at Realhair Chelsea. The products have since evolved and the packaging has become much more eco-friendly, I’ve fallen in love with them all over again.

I was lucky to be sent this set to try out (thanks Peter) specifically targeted to my hair type. When I opened the box the inside of the lid has the inscription “we are so thrilled to be in your hands! Nice to meet you!” I thought it was a nice touch, I’ve not seen that before.

NouNou is a nourishing shampoo and hair mask for highly processed (coloured) and brittle hair just like my fine hair is. The packaging of the individual products are simple and effective without unnecessary packaging such as boxes/plastic wrappings. The brand boasts zero impact products which of course are all paraben free. What’s really good is the “no fuss” little pot the mask comes in can be up-cycled as a plant pot, succulents look really cool in them! (well they do on the shelves in the window of Liberty Beauty Hall)

The smell of this shampoo and mask remind me of the smell of the Glamglow Youth Mud Face Mask which is a good thing, I LOVE that smell.I can’t really describe the smell you will just have to try it!

The shampoo lathers up well and rinses out easy, my hair feels smooth when wet before applying conditioner. It leaves my hair feeling very clean yet moisturised (not sqeaky) without weighing my fine hair down.

The mask unlike most deep conditioners has a very satisfying texture much like that of a really good quality body butter. It makes it easy to scoop out just the right amount without over-loading your hair. It glides through my hair with ease. After 10 mins you rinse it out and voila…beautifully nourished hair that’s easy to manage.

I love these products and happy I’ve been re-introduced to them they are absolutely perfect for my hair the result is shiny healthy looking hair with ends that look like they’ve been freshly trimmed (horray as I’m dodging a cut to grow it a little)

Davines is only available at Davines approved hair salons or retailers, I of course will be repurchasing mine at Liberty of London Beauty Hall Next to try is my Melu Hair Shield to protect my hair from the heat of the hairdryer and hair irons…review coming soon.

EIMI Dry Shampoo is the BEST Dry Shampoo on the market, Yes REALLY!!

Wella have recently launched an exciting new product line like no other they’ve launched before. EIMI enables you to mix things up and get individual results!

The packaging is modern and fresh with cool names that are self explainitrty, each product is cleverly grouped under which finish you want and level of hold so it’s so easy to pick out what you need!

Here are the groups: Volume, Smooth, Texture, Shine, Fixing (hairsprays) On each product there are 4 little circles at the the top, the coloured in circle indicate the level of hold 1 being less and 4 being most, it’s that easy.

So I’m testing EIMI DRY ME a level 1 hold dry shampoo which obsorbs unwanted oil and adds a little va va voom in a matte finish. You simply shake me, spray me, style me, use it on dry hair and brush through.

The results: I love this, I repeat I LOVE this, I’ve tried many a dry shampoo and always hate the gritty residue it leaves behind making my hair feel dirty which kinda defeats the object. But this product just get’s it spot on! It soaks up oily roots and adds a bit of volume to my lank flyaway hair, it smells slightly fruity or floral-ish without being offensive (like some drugstore brands) and most importantly leaves my hair feeling clean/fresh which I’m able to swoosh about!!! Not that of hair that look’s all dull and gritty like I’ve been on a building site. And the pastel colours look pretty on my dressingtable. My husband likes to use it to add a bit of lift to his quiff.

I’m giving this product a big FAT YES! I can’t wait to try some of the others in the range, I’ve heard that the PERFECT ME lightweight BB Lotion is amazing!

Have you tried any of the EIMI range from Wella yet?

Poof it up! with Kevin Murphy POWDER.PUFF 14g

2015/04/img_3142.jpgI gave this cute little powder puff a try out the other night when I was going out straight after work and wanted a little root lift in my hair after I took my crash helmet off. (I’ve forever got helmet hair!!!!)

This hair powder is quite different to others on the market as it’s a metamorphosis product – it begins as a powder and turns into a styling product which makes it quite unique. Here’s my review:

The Promise:
Need an instant poof in a jar! A look that is a favourite for “bedroom hair” To create a messy casual volume, gently tap a few shakes on the hair that you want body on, and the powder morphs into a product that holds.

The Science Bit:
Creates Volume, Dry Matte Texture, Weightless, Metamorphosis Product, Apple, Plum, Cranberries and Citrus extracts, Setting lotion encapsulated in a sphere of powder. It’s also 100% cruelty free!

My Verdict:
The packaging is cute and it’s easy to apply so thankfully no sticky mess! The smell is very light and delicate a bit herby, which completely goes away when in your hair which I think is a good thing for this type of product.

Section off your hair at the roots and sprinkle the powder along each section at the roots by tapping the powder puff, it’s that easy tap, tap, tap!
Gently rub into the root area, as you do this the very fine powder (it’s so fine it’s not like a powder its more the texture of lightly sieved icing sugar) turns into a volumising product with guts to give lots of lift. Hair is instantly revitalised and full of volume without looking like you have any product in. Hair still appears smooth and soft, I LOVE it! The only thing I personally don’t like is how my hair feels when I touch it, but hey that’s just me!

Summary:
This is a genius product and does exactly what it say’s it does and delivers on all of it’s promises. I’ve read a couple reviews of others that found it disappointing but in my opinion those were the ones who’s expectation was that of a dry shampoo and therefore completely missed the unique point of this little gem! I will definitely repurchase this product, get yours here £18

PUREOLOGY® Strength Cure – serious colour care!

Woking in a salon I’m lucky to get the odd freebie from time to time. Last week we were all treated to a Pureology gift bag set for our efforts in selling retail. If I’m honest the gift bag itself isn’t really my thing, but the actual product inside…well let’s just say I’m in LOVE!

IMG_2937.JPGThe smell is gorgeous the colour is a bright pinkish colour. The smallest amount foams up a treat
(I know shampoo doesn’t have to foam to clean the hair but it’s oh so satisfying when it does) it contains antifade complex and treats micro scarred or damaged colour treated hair (my hair is all of the above, so I may of found my match)

IMG_7360.JPGHere’s a clever idea, the lid for the shampoo is at the top of the bottle and the lid for the conditioner is at the bottom of the bottle. So although the bottles are the same shape/colour they are easy to work out while your in the shower and not quite awake yet!

IMG_7359.JPGImpressively these products are 100% vegan and sulphate free. Here’s the science bit…

The shampoo; Gives your hair strength, reduces breakage and brings softness to every hair on your head. It will strengthen the fibre in your hair and remove dull residue.
Featuring Pureology’s Antifadecomplex and Asta-Repair, the Strength Cure rich foam cleanser controls the look of frizz, whilst helping to repair and strengthen micro damaged zones.

The conditioner; Working to detangle, strengthen, and condition it is the ideal product to look after your hair. With its opulent Pureology Antifadecomplex and Asta-repair formula, the conditioning product helps to improve hair’s shine and softness, whilst protecting colour radiance between every wash.
Aiming to improve body, smoothness, and suppleness the conditioner helps repair the micro damaged zones by enveloping strands in a smooth coating of Strength Cure conditioner.

The Verdict
I’m totally sold and would definitely purchase these products, though they are rich and seem like they will last forever they do not weigh down my fine straight over processed blonde hair. They do the opposite and give my hair fullness and bounce with a shine.

My Conclusion
I’ve been using these for one week and yes ok I’ve had a few inches cut off my hair which helps, but I can definitely feel and see an improvement with the condition of my hair which is often ironed flat each morning to remove my crash helmet kinks before I start work.

Anyone else tried any products from the fabulous pureology range?
