Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser | secondblonde

There has been a lot of hype around Glossier since it’s launch about 5 years ago and with good reason. I really like this brand here’s a little overview;

Glossier is a back-to-basics, digitally native beauty brand that has built a cult following, particularly among millennials. With a narrow product range of about 40 SKUs primarily focused on skincare, with colour cosmetics and fragrance rounding out the line, Glossier celebrates its customers’ natural beauty, not the artificial, painted-on kind. Its tagline is, “Beauty products inspired by real life.”

The Glossier beauty company grew out of its millennial founder Emily Weiss’s beauty blog called “Into the Gloss.” Starting her career at Teen Vogue, then moving around other slots at Condé Nast, Weiss left in 2010 to launch her blog to share beauty tips and tricks with her online friends.

Weiss’ early engagement with other beauty aficionados revealed where traditional beauty brands were letting her and her fans down. So she created solutions with the launch in 2014 of Glossier’s initial collection of four products, including a cleanser, priming moisturiser, lip balm and a misting spray. The rest is history..

Quite a few of their products have become make-up bag staples amongst bloggers, such as Boy Brow (brow grooming pomade) Stretch concealer (undetectable flexible cover) Balm Dotcom (do everything tinted skin balm) and of course the Milky Jelly Cleanser.

What is Milky Jelly Cleanser – It’s a gentle effective creamy gel texture face cleanser that’s suitable for all skin types. It includes skin conditioners that leave your skin feeling clean, calm and fresh without any tightness. It’s safe to use on eyes as the cleansing agents used are what are found in contact lens solution.

When I Use It – I like to use it as a morning freshen up cleanse. It can remove makeup but due to it’s consistency and performance I prefer it as a morning or second cleanse to clean my skin – not to remove make up.

Why I Love It – I love the branding and simple packaging. The pump dispenser is perfect it pumps out little droplets of the opaque gel. I use between 3-5 pumps depending on what I need. It’s great as you never use too much or waste any product. The smell is fresh and clean (it’s un-fragranced) can’t really describe it any better than that but I love it.

How I Use It – I can easily and evenly cleanse my whole face including my eyes with it, it stay’s the same texture so you can control it while it’s on your skin. It can be used on dry skin for a really good first cleanse (when removing makeup/dirt) or it can be used on damp skin as a lighter second cleanse or morning freshen up.

I use it in the mornings on damp skin, it does just rinse off however I always flannel off as I like to use flannels to give my skin a light exfoliation (not a hard rub – never rub your flannel hard on your skin just light sweeping movements)

It leaves my skin clean and fresh and kinda bouncy ready to take on my active serums – always a hyaluronic as a first step.

Would I Re-Purchase – Hell yeah! I love it and will always keep it on rotation in my little cleansing emporium. Mine was a 60ml £8 it also comes in 177ml £15

Lets talk Lip Gloss by FLOSS | secondblonde

I’m not a big fan of lip gloss in fact I’ve not worn lip gloss since 2005! For lot’s of reasons as makeup trends evolve and change but mainly as I hate the stickiness of it, hair getting stuck to your lips of it, and not forgetting the constantly having to re-apply it!

And then I tried “My New Favourite Gloss” by Floss. It is not glittery, not sticky! It’s hydrating, long-lasting, smooth and surprisingly comfortable to wear.

I normally use it alone for a semi-sheer wash of color that enhances my lip colour during the day. You can layer on top of a matte lipstick for added shine and va va voom!

What I’m really happy with is that I don’t need to keep topping it up. It lasts for most of the day. Plus it smells good enough to eat like vanilla ice-cream. All in all I’m impressed with this little tube of lip gloss it’s definitely converted me! A big thumbs up – it’s the perfect nude pink shade and I also love the packaging.

The biggest bonus of all is that your hair doesn’t get stuck to your lips even in the wind!

6. M&S If you normally only step into M&S to buy your knickers and pick up your on-the-go lunch then think again – over the last few years their beauty halls have really stepped up! It’s full to the brim of everything you could possibly need with some brilliant brands. – bravo M&S! £250 worth of products for £35 (a no brainer) you need to spend £35 on clothing, beauty or home first)

3 Beauty Hacks You Need To Know

FullSizeRender (3)

Highlighting and Strobing I’m not big into make-up. I’m more interested in great skin so this is so helpful to remind me what goes where. I don’t wear a lot of make so I often get confused. I’ve only recently got into the whole highlighter/strobing thing. This diagram is so simple to use, the visual makes it much easier for me to remember what goes where.

Expiry Dates I am soo guilty of this one… I’ve got so many old mascara’s and other eye products – they always look like new and I forget just how long I’ve had them! tut tut. Since running a blog/instagram page it’s easier to track how long I’ve had things when I’ve photographed and posted them. I didn’t know about changing your nail file every three months! So today I purchased a new one and threw my old old one away (too embarrassed to tell you how old mine was) next up my mascara’s.

Emergency Cover Up I’m a believer in preventing than covering up, however this clever little colour wheel explains everything going back to basics with primary colours. Now you know where you’ve been going wrong when your skin needs a little help.

Hope you’ve enjoyed these back to basics beauty hacks, I know it’s nothing new (well apart from the expiry dates) however I found them all really helpful and I hope you do too.

Drugstore Finds Under a Fiver! 3 faves you will always find in my makeup bag.

fullsizerender-48

My make-up stash is a complete mix of luxury brands and drugstore brands. I think of it as I do clothes, you don’t always have to spend a lot to look nice and sometimes there are some highstreet brands that have great results for a fraction of the cost! I do love a few litte luxuries, who doesn’t? although I’m not a brand snob and happy to use or wear any brand as long as I feel/look to my best and happy with it blah blah blah…

Barry M illuminating Strobe Cream – comes in two shades Iced Bronzed or Frosty Pink. I have both and discovered these when they were in my Christmas stocking! They are very subtle and easy to blend but are also buildable for a stronger effect. I prefer using them on my check bones and nose. It’s a bit too glittery for me to use on my cupids bow or chin. Take a look at them here  for a very reasonable £4.49 each.

Rimmel Brow This Way – This clever little palette is a wax and a shadow in a small compact size (hate really big brow kits, too bulky in my makeup bag) The brush is the best quality slanted brush I’ve tried in a drugstore kit, it’s also double ended! Plus you get a little brow spoolie! I always get the shade dark brown 003 which is hard to find as it’s constantly out of stock, it also come in two other shades. The colour is a good match and stays on all day. More info here and ONLY £3.99

COLLECTION Lasting Perfection Concealer – Recenty purchased this after the bloggers hype of a great budget dupe for Nars. I’m not a big user of concealer but like to use this in the corners of my eyes near the bridge of my nose to illuminate that area when I’m looking a bit tired. Occasionally I add a little to my eye cream and dab it under my eyes. I’ve got the lightest shade called Fair Shade 1, it actually comes is four shades here and is a steal at £4.19

Happy 6th Birthday to my blog | secondblonde

fullsize_a

Happy 6th Birthday to my little beauty blog! It’s been a fantastic year for my blog which continues to grow in hits and followers. I also launched my secondblonde channel on youtube back in April which I hope to grow next year.

My claim to fame of the beauty world this year was being introduced to Caroline Hirons by Gloria (Liberty Beauty) and Caroline giving me a big warm hug.

A huge thank you to my readers for your support, it often feels like it’s just my Mum that reads my post’s until people tell me in “real life” how much they like my blog or strangers approaching me when I worked in Liberty London as they recognised me from my instagram posts! … Here’s to a fabulous 2017!
