Rahua Voluminous Shampoo & Conditioner | SECONDBLONDE

FullSizeRender (20)

I’ve been trying out these Vegan 100% natural and organic hair products by Rahua. Rahua AMAZON BEAUTY  was founded by Fabian Lliguin a New York hairdresser and advocate for the conservation of the Amazon. Amazon Beauty® Inc. have devised its own standard called, Symbiotic®. Meaning a Symbiotic® ingredient must be harvested from virgin forests in the Amazon, cultivated and obtained using the same, traditional methods used by Amazonian tribes for centuries.

The bottles are really attractive with attention to detail such as embossed logo’s on both sides of the bottle and fancy gold flip top lids. I like that the bottles are completely clear allowing you to see the product inside and it’s consistency.

I’ve got the Voluminous range as my hair is very fine and gets greasy really quickly. It is also safe for colour treated hair. The smell is a love hate situation, although completely natural it is quite strong – you really smell the lavender and eucalyptus. I really love the smell it really turns shampooing your hair into a relaxing pleasant experience.

The shampoo lathers really well much more than I imaged for a Vegan/Organic free from everything shampoo (if I’m honest I do love a bit of man made silicon in my hair!) It rinsed out really well and left my hair very clean, almost raw feeling which I’m not sure if I love – perhaps just different. I applied the conditioner mid lengths to ends which again smelt beautiful and left on for a few minutes before rinsing off. When combing my hair it was slightly more tangled than usual so I needed to use a light prep spray to help comb through before styling. It did style well without going static which is always a good sign with my hair type. The feel of my hair when dry was smooth and I’m not sure what best word to use other than raw – perhaps I needed the regular conditioner as the Voluminous is very lightweight.

Overall I do really like Rahua as a brand and their ethos – how they support the rainforest, however personally I don’t think it will be my go-to daily shampoo/conditioner. It’s more likely to be my 100% natural alternative option.

There’s a whole range of beautiful hair shampoo/conditioner/treatments/styling and body products. I’ve heard amazing things about the results of the Omega 9 hair mask.

Bamford Botanic Nurture Balm | secondblonde

img_7568

Whenever my skin needs a little TLC I reach for my little pot of Botanic Nurture Balm. If you aren’t familiar with this brand read my review here of their body wash/cream which includes a quick background on this English heritage brand.

This beautiful pot of botanical balm is a nourishing Shea Butter containing healing arnica with omega-rich rosehip oil. It’s a nutrient – intense balm great for dry skin/patches. It’s ingredients is 100% organic and is scented with notes of chamomile, lavender (not strong) and tea tree oil.  Key Ingredients Shea butter . sunflower oil . jojoba oil . rosehip oil . olive oil . lavender oil . geranium oil . chamomile oil . tea tree oil . arnica Montana extract.

Summary I tend to use mine in the winter months when my skin plays up due to colder air outside and central heating inside. I like to apply it to spot area’s such as my heels/ankles, elbows, knees and any other small rough patches.

The texture is much what you’d expect from a solid balm, once warmed in your palms it softens and sinks into your skin quickly. It does leave a balmy residue as expected however it’s not overly greasy. The smell is wonderfully delicate as it’s all natural and organic.

I can really smell the geranium and chamomile above all the other ingredients and find it really soothing and moisturising  on my skin and also really calming and relaxing for my mind. It’s a little moment of calm while you are massaging it in. I like to massage it into my cuticles then cup my hands over my nose and breathe in for a few seconds to inhale the aromas…..ah bliss! I also use mine to heal and calm skin problems like little patches of eczema.

*Top Tip it’s also great for your hair to calm flyaway’s  – after use  on your skin smooth the remains on your palms over your hair, particularly the ends.

This is certainly a luxury product at £22  for 60ml however as a little goes a long way, mine seems to be lasting forever.

Power of The Baobab: My Review of Aduna Baobab Superfruit Powder| secondblonde

image1 (3)

You may of heard me raving about this superfruit powder on my YouTube Channel I’m not really one for jumping on the band wagon of the latest health foods. A few of my friends at work were already taking it regular and said it was really good so I took the plunge and gave it a go.

The Product The baobab fruit is the only fruit that dries naturally on the branch. Aduna work with small scale producers in rural Africa to harvest, remove seeds and sieve to produce a raw wholefood powder. It’s rich in Vitamin C (single dose provides 33% of your daily requirement and 50% fibre) Baobab fruit contains the highest antioxidant level. It’s 100% natural and organic so therefore absorbs into your body with no preservatives or additives, Suitable for vegetarians and vegans and is kosher certified.

The Promise To bring out your natural vibrancy making you look good and feel good by promoting good skin health and giving energy release and support immune functions.

My Verdict The first time I tried this I added two teaspoons to my porridge with almond milk before popping it in the microwave. It did give my porridge a slightly bitter taste but it was still enjoyable. I was on an early shift at work so was up at the crack of dawn. Normally by 11:30/12:00ish I have a bit of a slump feeling tired, sluggish and a bit blah! Basically like I need a coffee or food. However…after taking this “magic” powder I had so much energy and was literally dancing around the room! I felt really energised the whole day and ready to face anything.

As not to change the taste of my breakfast I sometimes put 2 teaspoons in a cup, add a little water to mix into a paste – then add two tablespoons of natural yoghurt and stir until blended. Then eat it on it’s own, I prefer the taste this way. It’s kind of like a sour citrus. I don’t love it but it’s ok. Aduna have won “great taste awards”.

To see the skin benefits by supporting collagen formation to get the baobab glow you need to take daily, I haven’t been taking it daily yet and only been taking on days I feel I need it.

Summary This is a fantastic food supplement what does exactly what it promises to do and I really like the ethos of the brand. Aduna have other health powders and energy bars in their range. I will definitely re-purchase the Baobab Superfruit Powder when mine is finished. Maybe I should start taking daily and come back to you with results of my skin.

Let me know if you’ve tried any superfood supplements that you got results from, I’d love to hear your recommendations.

Rose, Camomile, Lemon Hand and Body Wash 25oml

The packaging is a plastic recyclable bottle in their signature green colour. It has a delicate fragrance which is surprisingly uplifting and invigorating. As you massage you get to experience all the different layers of this beautifuly soft scent. I can smell the moroccan rose, the camomile, the ylang ylang the blackcurrent and the subtle twist of lemon.

As it’s sulphate/parabens free it doesn’t bubble up like a foam party but give’s a luxurious lather which is just enough to satisfy our obsession with our need for foam to feel clean! (which we all know isn’t true, extra ingredients are added to most drugstore cleansers to give the “foam” effect we all crave)

It leaves my skin feeling fresh, very clean and awake, in fact my skin feels great! It feels soft to touch and slightly scented however, it does feel like it needs a moisturiser.

Rose, Camomile, Lemon Body Cream 200ml

The packaging is a glass recyclable jar in the same green colour which I really like. The texture is deliciously thick like a butter without feeling heavy or greasy. It contains botanical butters and oils such as jojoba, cocoa, shea butter and protective honey.

As I apply it absorbs fairly quickly, it smells the same as the body wash with all the delicate layers of each scent, after a while I feel like I can smell the camomile and subtle lemon the most.

My skin feels so soft and really hydrated with a healthy sheen yet not greasy residue. It feels like I’ve enveloped my skin in pure luxury! And indeed it is, I haven’t used any other body creams which are 95% organic with no artificial colours or fragrance. My skin was hydrated for endless hours. The subtle scent is so nice and has a calming effect on my mind, I can’t get enough of it! I absolutely adore these products and can’t wait to try some of the other’s in the range. I fancy trying the Geranium, Lavender, Peppermint next and the Botanic Sugar Polish.

You can purchase Bamford at Liberty of London Body and Hand Wash £22, Body Cream £35.

Have you tried any of the products from the Bamford range? I would love to hear about them.

Anti-Ageing Foods You Need To Add To Your Shopping Trolley!

FullSizeRender (1)

*2 Minutes

So we all know that eating a balanced diet of healthy foods including “good fats” is the way forward. Did you know that there are 9 foods that you should be eating on a weekly basis to aid younger brighter skin and slow down premature ageing and here’s why!

1.Avocado (the king of instagram #foodporn) High in Vitamin E which is a skin saviour. A healthy fat that lowers cholestrol and great for keeping your joints supple. Helps to prevent premature ageing of your skin and damage to your DNA.

2.Fruit (avoid sugar loaded tropical fruits) High in Vitamin C to promote a healthy glow, our bodies do not store Vitamin C so the more you can eat the better.

3.Berries Bursting with Antioxidants which have a positive effect on slowing down your skins ageing process supporting collagen formation keeping your skin nice and plump.

4.Dark Chocolate (85% cocoa) Cocoa is very high in oxidants helping to protect skin from harmful UV effects, eat moderately and always choose organic.

5.Tomatoes Contain lycopene which has been proven to be anti-ageing to the skin.

6.Fish Fresh Oily cold water fish is the best source of omega-3 a fatty acid which supports healthy skin and immune function.

7.Coconut (the dharling of instagram) The health benefits are endless (another blog post right there) however when talking of the benefits on your skin for eating coconut this medium chain fatty acid has been shown to significantly increase skin elasticity and decreased wrinkling of the skin.

8.Green Tea An antioxidant which has anti-cancer properties and aids weight loss, highly effective on our skins complexion and overall good health.

9.Leafy Green Veg Acting like an edible elixir of youth! Benefits to our skin colouration in a way that others find attractive, also another anti-cancer ingredient. Two great reasons to pile your plate high with spinach, broccoli or kale.

What are you going to add to your weekly shop this week?
