My Favorite Night Balm – C.O Bigelow 8 hour overnight recovery lip treatment | secondblonde

img_5419

This overnight treatment by C.O Bigelow NY is my lips new best friend and my favourite lip balm. I discovered this amazing lip balm a few months ago and recommend it to anyone looking for a new lip balm or anyone that suffers from dry lips. It’s a non-sticky lip treatment that stays put on your lips for 8 hours…yes it really does!

It contains shea butter and has a very slight vanilla scent, the texture is nice and thick but never gloopy. I normally apply it to my lips before bed and wake up to nourished smooth plumped lips. What I really love about it is that even after 8 hours it is still fresh on your lips as if you’ve just applied it. I also find that my lipstick goes on better and stays put longer after using this balm.

If you are looking for a new lip balm you must try this one or any of the other C.O Bigelow balms available at Liberty Beauty Hall. I also have the Mentha Lip Shine/Breath Freshener that contains 100% natural mint and the Mentha Lip Balm Stick that’s a matte finish with an spf  all of which I use on different occasions because they do what they say they will do…honest | genuine | trustworthy Apothecaries.

C.O. Bigelow was established in New York in 1838 providing healing remedies. As the oldest surviving apothecary in America, today the brand fuses a wealth of experience with the best in modern technology to create authentic herbal skin care, lip balms, hair care, body and bath products.

Power of The Baobab: My Review of Aduna Baobab Superfruit Powder| secondblonde

image1 (3)

You may of heard me raving about this superfruit powder on my YouTube Channel I’m not really one for jumping on the band wagon of the latest health foods. A few of my friends at work were already taking it regular and said it was really good so I took the plunge and gave it a go.

The Product The baobab fruit is the only fruit that dries naturally on the branch. Aduna work with small scale producers in rural Africa to harvest, remove seeds and sieve to produce a raw wholefood powder. It’s rich in Vitamin C (single dose provides 33% of your daily requirement and 50% fibre) Baobab fruit contains the highest antioxidant level. It’s 100% natural and organic so therefore absorbs into your body with no preservatives or additives, Suitable for vegetarians and vegans and is kosher certified.

The Promise To bring out your natural vibrancy making you look good and feel good by promoting good skin health and giving energy release and support immune functions.

My Verdict The first time I tried this I added two teaspoons to my porridge with almond milk before popping it in the microwave. It did give my porridge a slightly bitter taste but it was still enjoyable. I was on an early shift at work so was up at the crack of dawn. Normally by 11:30/12:00ish I have a bit of a slump feeling tired, sluggish and a bit blah! Basically like I need a coffee or food. However…after taking this “magic” powder I had so much energy and was literally dancing around the room! I felt really energised the whole day and ready to face anything.

As not to change the taste of my breakfast I sometimes put 2 teaspoons in a cup, add a little water to mix into a paste – then add two tablespoons of natural yoghurt and stir until blended. Then eat it on it’s own, I prefer the taste this way. It’s kind of like a sour citrus. I don’t love it but it’s ok. Aduna have won “great taste awards”.

To see the skin benefits by supporting collagen formation to get the baobab glow you need to take daily, I haven’t been taking it daily yet and only been taking on days I feel I need it.

Summary This is a fantastic food supplement what does exactly what it promises to do and I really like the ethos of the brand. Aduna have other health powders and energy bars in their range. I will definitely re-purchase the Baobab Superfruit Powder when mine is finished. Maybe I should start taking daily and come back to you with results of my skin.

The Day I met Votary Founder Arabella Preston

FullSizeRender (18)

Votary launched last September and lucky me it’s exclusive at work Liberty Beauty Hall

The range is all plant based ingredients, in addition to their performance the smell of each one plays an important part too, it’s a whole experience. The Face Oils have different qualities and effects on the skin but also can be up-lifting or calming, or you can just choose one to suit your mood! The Cleansing oil is rose, geranium and apricot, oh you have to come ad smell this beautiful range in stunning green glass bottles with their rose gold labels just to believe how special they look and feel.

If you follow Caroline Hirons  you are probably familiar with these products, Caroline added the Cleansing Oil to her “most used products of 2015” view here

I haven’t had the chance to try out this fabulous range of face oils, cleansing oil or their newest addition the toning serum yet but they are high on my WISH LIST (full review coming soon)

I did however get to spend the whole day assisting Arabella (founder) at an event at work, she’s so lovely and funny, we did have a little giggle… and of course very knowledgeable about skin care and make-up (we also know a few industry people in common) I felt completely privileged to hear all her skin/make-up tips first hand. Ever since I’m using a little trick she recommended when you “flannel off” your cleanser and I’ve started adding a little eye-liner to my upper lid water line for a subtle look to make your eye’s pop, one of Arabella’s many make-up tips. Her favourite make-up brands include Hourglass, Bobbi Brown, Nars and Mac.

Here’s a pic from Arabella’s instagram the day she was at Liberty, did I mention how pretty she is too, her legs go on for miles, she’s like a model.

Secondblonde’s Homemade Sugar Lip Scrub

IMG_8970.PNGAs a matte lipstick fan my lips tend to dry out and get all yucky and flaky, not a good look! I don’t normally invest in lip scrubs and usually gently wipe my lips with a wet flannel or brush with a soft toothbrush when I remember to.

With a kitchen full of skin care worthy ingredients I decide to make a quick lip scrub. Manuka Honey for it’s natural humectant properties drawing moisture to the skin and of course healing properties. Sweet Almond Oil to create a protective barrier and sugar as an abrasive exfoliant.

Method:
# Get a ramekin or small dish and add 1 teaspoon of honey, I use Manuka Honey 12+.

# Stir in 1 teaspoon of Sweet Almond Oil (you can use olive oil if that’s all you have)

# Add 2 teaspoons of granulated sugar, I used white as it’s more refined and gentle on your lips.

# Combine together to make a thick paste.

# Add in 2 drops of edible flavoured oil, I used almond oil you can choose mango, lemon or lime if preferred.

# Decant into a small pot with a lid, the scrub will fill a 7.5g pot perfectly, I used an old eye gel pot washed out.

Ta dah! It’s ready to use!

The texture is satisfyingly thick and the sugar granules perfect for the level of exfoliating my lips need. The colour is rich and the smell is so yummy I just wanna eat it!!! Seriously it’s taken me ages to write this post as I keep opening the lid and taking a whiff every few minutes.

IMG_8971.PNGWhen applied to damp lips it’s gloppy enough to stay put but easy to move around and massage in circular movements.

Technically this is completely edible with a pleasant sweet taste so feel free to lick some off! Personally I like to rinse off with warm water and pat my lips dry and finish with a layer of balm.

I’m really pleased with how it’s turned out and will start using it a couple of times a week to keep my lips soft and smooth.

Have you got any homemade kitchen beauty product recipes that really work?
