Rahua Voluminous Shampoo & Conditioner | SECONDBLONDE

FullSizeRender (20)

I’ve been trying out these Vegan 100% natural and organic hair products by Rahua. Rahua AMAZON BEAUTY  was founded by Fabian Lliguin a New York hairdresser and advocate for the conservation of the Amazon. Amazon Beauty® Inc. have devised its own standard called, Symbiotic®. Meaning a Symbiotic® ingredient must be harvested from virgin forests in the Amazon, cultivated and obtained using the same, traditional methods used by Amazonian tribes for centuries.

The bottles are really attractive with attention to detail such as embossed logo’s on both sides of the bottle and fancy gold flip top lids. I like that the bottles are completely clear allowing you to see the product inside and it’s consistency.

I’ve got the Voluminous range as my hair is very fine and gets greasy really quickly. It is also safe for colour treated hair. The smell is a love hate situation, although completely natural it is quite strong – you really smell the lavender and eucalyptus. I really love the smell it really turns shampooing your hair into a relaxing pleasant experience.

The shampoo lathers really well much more than I imaged for a Vegan/Organic free from everything shampoo (if I’m honest I do love a bit of man made silicon in my hair!) It rinsed out really well and left my hair very clean, almost raw feeling which I’m not sure if I love – perhaps just different. I applied the conditioner mid lengths to ends which again smelt beautiful and left on for a few minutes before rinsing off. When combing my hair it was slightly more tangled than usual so I needed to use a light prep spray to help comb through before styling. It did style well without going static which is always a good sign with my hair type. The feel of my hair when dry was smooth and I’m not sure what best word to use other than raw – perhaps I needed the regular conditioner as the Voluminous is very lightweight.

Overall I do really like Rahua as a brand and their ethos – how they support the rainforest, however personally I don’t think it will be my go-to daily shampoo/conditioner. It’s more likely to be my 100% natural alternative option.

There’s a whole range of beautiful hair shampoo/conditioner/treatments/styling and body products. I’ve heard amazing things about the results of the Omega 9 hair mask.

NEW | Espa Tri-Active Advanced Instant Facial

I’m always up for trying out a new facial serum and this Espa Instant Facial ticks all the boxes of what my skin needs…

It’s a 3-in-1 treatment that promises to leave skin instantly replenished, smooth and luminous, then with continual use  will be firmer and brighter.

For anyone unsure of when to apply an active serum, always on cleansed dry skin to the areas you wish to treat – I always apply to my cheeks, nose and then massage in spreading up to my forehead and tapping around my under eye area. (eye creams really aren’t necessary) Then once absorbed apply your moisturiser/facial oil as usual.

*Top Tip – never wipe off any excess from your fingers – instead use it for your neck up to your jawline using upwards stroking movements.

The Key Ingredients | Macroalgae Cell Extract | Winged Kelp Extract | White Truffle Extract | Vitamin C Encapsulated Oils |

My Verdict I’ve used this a few times, the first time I applied it I wasn’t expecting the product to have a slight fishy smell….I know, I know this shouldn’t matter whatsoever as it’s all about the ingredients and the results – I just wasn’t ready for it as the smell from the bottle is a pleasant orange kind of smell, probably didn’t help that I had massaged it in around my nose and pretty much up my nostrils!! NOT DOING THAT AGAIN!

The packaging is nice, it’s a glass frosted bottle and the pump works well dispensing a good amount of the cream textured serum. You only need 1 or 2 pumps as it seems to go a long way.

My skin did look instantly smooth and really fresh and hydrated and my tinted moisturiser went on really nicely and I’m now used to the smell which does disappear. My skin also felt nourished which is perfect for the winter months as I’m prone to dry patches.

It is a great skin booster and I’m looking forward to seeing the full effects after longer use.

Bamford Botanic Nurture Balm | secondblonde

img_7568

Whenever my skin needs a little TLC I reach for my little pot of Botanic Nurture Balm. If you aren’t familiar with this brand read my review here of their body wash/cream which includes a quick background on this English heritage brand.

This beautiful pot of botanical balm is a nourishing Shea Butter containing healing arnica with omega-rich rosehip oil. It’s a nutrient – intense balm great for dry skin/patches. It’s ingredients is 100% organic and is scented with notes of chamomile, lavender (not strong) and tea tree oil.  Key Ingredients Shea butter . sunflower oil . jojoba oil . rosehip oil . olive oil . lavender oil . geranium oil . chamomile oil . tea tree oil . arnica Montana extract.

Summary I tend to use mine in the winter months when my skin plays up due to colder air outside and central heating inside. I like to apply it to spot area’s such as my heels/ankles, elbows, knees and any other small rough patches.

The texture is much what you’d expect from a solid balm, once warmed in your palms it softens and sinks into your skin quickly. It does leave a balmy residue as expected however it’s not overly greasy. The smell is wonderfully delicate as it’s all natural and organic.

I can really smell the geranium and chamomile above all the other ingredients and find it really soothing and moisturising  on my skin and also really calming and relaxing for my mind. It’s a little moment of calm while you are massaging it in. I like to massage it into my cuticles then cup my hands over my nose and breathe in for a few seconds to inhale the aromas…..ah bliss! I also use mine to heal and calm skin problems like little patches of eczema.

*Top Tip it’s also great for your hair to calm flyaway’s  – after use  on your skin smooth the remains on your palms over your hair, particularly the ends.

This is certainly a luxury product at £22  for 60ml however as a little goes a long way, mine seems to be lasting forever.

The Konjac Sponge Co-100% Vegetable Fibre Face Sponge | secondblonde

img_7698

The Konjac Sponge Co produce 100% biodegradable vegetable fibre sponge’s with a unique net-like structure. This gently massages the skin to stimulate blood flow and cell turnover and removes all traces of dirt and make-up with or without any cleanser. There are different options available depending on your skin type/needs. I’m trying out the Pink Clay enriched one which is best for dry and mature skin.

What is Konjac? Made from Konjac Potato or Konnyaku, first discovered in the Indochinese region that has been used for 1,500 years as a medicinal, food, dieting and beauty product. Naturally alkaline and pH neutral it leaves skin perfectly balanced for radiant skin. Gentle enough for sensitive skins and babies, the pure Konjac Sponges are the ultimate in natural, effective skin care.

How To Use It Rinse your Konjac Sponge in warm water, squeeze it out and gently cleanse your skin. (when it’s dry it shrinks and feels hard with an uneven surface, when hydrated it expands to a smooth round dome shape that feels soft on your skin) I like using circular movements, the sponge fits nicely into the palm of your hand. You don’t need to use a cleanser but can add a small amount if desired.

After use rinse your sponge well, and allow to dry in an airy place between uses. It has a handy little string loop to hang it up, I hang mine in my shower. It will last for about 3 months and then you need to replace it. You can add it to your garden compost after use.

Summary I really love using this natural sponge, I tend to use it in the mornings when I don’t have any make-up to remove. I use it without cleanser to give my face a nice gentle exfoliation and massage – feels so good. Then I use a cleanser which I remove in my usual way with a warm face flannel. I’m quite sure my skin is looking brighter since using it.

I will definitely re-purchase this sponge and try out some of the other types, in fact my husband tried it and loved it so I’ve got one for him too! Check them out here

New Monday + New Week = New Goals | secondblonde

img_7552

I try to start each week with new goals and I don’t mean bigger picture life changing goals I just mean I try and start each week with a fresh focus no matter how big or small the goal is. Although working in retail your days/weeks can get a bit jumbled I still stick to Monday as the best day to set myself a personal or professional target.

The target could be a mundane one such as a household task like clearing out/tidying up an area of the house you’ve been putting off, which when it’s done is satisfyingly rewarding. It may be a personal  goal like setting more time aside for yourself or to start a new hobby or catch up with family or a friend you’ve been meaning to make time for. Or it could be dealing with your finances and searching for better deals saving you money annually that can go towards another goal! You get the picture. Whatever you decide to do set yourself a realistic goal. Plan it, write it down and stick to it! It doesn’t have to be complicated just a simple list will do and tick it off as you achieve it…seeing the results can be quite rewarding and give a sense if achievement with a positive impact to do more.

This week my focus is my beauty blog and social media platforms I manage- I’ve been so busy with “life” I’ve somehow neglected my passion but now I’ve set myself some goals my blogging mojo is back!

What are your personal goals this week?

I’m Cheating on MAC Ruby Woo with NARS Mysterious Red | secondblonde

img_7476

If you know me or read my posts you know I wear a matte red lip on a daily basis and have been wearing Ruby Woo by Mac for at least 5 years, it’s kinda become my signature colour. The beauty hall I work in is full of fabulous brands so recently I decided it was time to explore new alternatives to my beloved Ruby Woo. With my loyalty voucher to redeem my first stop is the NARS counter…I decided to go for one of their new (well new to me) Velvet Matte Lip Pencil’s.

The Promise The idea of this product is that you still get the application of a lipstick but with the convenience of a pencil in a jumbo crayon design. The colour is very pigmented, the texture is a  velvety matte finish. It’s formula promises a creamy texture as it has unique silicones which ensure long lasting colour and it’s enriched with vitamin E.

Results I’ve been wearing this lip colour for about four weeks, I love the colour it’s a retro kind of red just how I like it. The fact it’s a jumbo pencil is really easy to use, I do still use a lip liner otherwise I find it bleeds a little (but hey that may just be my age) The colour is really intense and stays put all day with a top after eating. The creamy texture feels great on my lips and they certainly look more hydrated while being matte. The only downside in my opinion is that I think this will not last as long as a traditional lipstick as I need to sharpen it quite often.

Summary I’m definitely a convert…sorry Ruby Woo! I will be re-purchasing. Check out NARS here £20

What NARS lip products have you tried? would love to hear your experiences.

Color Wow Kale Cocktail bionic tonic 200ml | secondblonde

I was so happy to have been sent these new Color Wow products thanks to Imagination PR which I’ve been playing around with and finally got round to share my thoughts with you guys. These new hair cocktails are such a fun way to apply a “bond reinforcing” product to your hair.

You may have already watched me talk about these fantastic new colour wow products on my YouTube Channel

The whole range of cocktails are leave-in bond building supplements formulated for colour treated hair. Depending on which one you use they either strengthen, thicken, renew elasticity, retain suppleness, protect and prevent further damage. You can even mix them together like you would a cocktail for what your hair needs. I’ve been using the Kale Cocktail for my processed fine/prone to breakage hair for a few weeks and I absolutely LOVE it!

The Proudct The Kale cocktail is a bionic tonic which contains sulphur rich sea kale known to help reinforce hair vital bonds. It also contains protein building amino acid and vitamin B which works in one single application. The Kale cocktail can be mixed with the coconut or the carb cocktail for when your hair may need an extra hydrating or body building boost! You must shake before use and for best results the product is accelerated and enhanced when heat is applied.

The Promise The kale Cocktail promises to reinforce hair bonds and strengthen each strand. Detangle hair, help reduce further breakage and help guard against UV ray’s.

My Verdict I’ve been applying a small amount (of shaken not stirred product) to towel dried hair mid lengths to ends combed through then styled as normal with my hair dryer. On work day’s I do apply hair irons too to smooth out my crash helmet kinks. The consistency is light and milky and easy to apply, it’s not sticky and smells really fresh and pleasant to use. When my hair is dry/styled it doesn’t feel like I have any product in it (which is a good thing) however there is a noticeable difference in how my hair hairs/looks/feels. It instantly looks healthier, feels stronger and is soft and smooth to touch without being fluffy.

Summary I love this product so much and have already recommended it to a few friends. My husband who’s a hair colourist – you can check him out here has also started using it on some of his clients post colouring services. I will definitely re-purchase this product however in the meantime I will experiment with the coconut and carb cocktails too!

You can pick them up at a John Frieda hair salon or online here £22 Have you tried these or any other products from the Color Wow range?

Ren Instant Firming Beauty Shot 30ml | secondblonde

I finally got round to trying this serum out after getting it last spring as part of the “Be Well” box by hip and healthy x Liberty. Ren have a vast range of skin and body care, lots of people seem to know them for their products suitable for sensitive skin.

The Promise As part of the Keep Young and Beautiful range it promises to instantly firm and plump skin for dramatically tighter/smoother youthful skin and firm/remodel elastin over a period of time.

On To The Product I really like the pipette as it makes it easier to use correct amount. The serum is a gel like texture and I really love the scent. It’s a soft rose smell (contains rose flower water and rose flower oil) I know not everyone likes rose however it’s very subtle and goes away as soon as it dries.

I’ve been using it daily in the mornings for about two weeks. I apply 3 drops to cleansed skin under my moisturiser. I pat it in gently allowing it to fully obsorb before applying a moisturiser. I did notice that my skin appeared to be smoother and hydrated but didn’t really notice a dramatic instant difference in firmness as it promises. It does contain a matrix of hyaluronans which encourages your elastin to firm and re-model over time.

My Verdict I think that this is an anti-ageing product is perfect for those in their late twenties starting to think about preventing fine lines and keeping young skin youthful. I don’t think it is suitable for the needs of forty somethings like me that quite frankly need all the help we can get!

It did keep my skin hydrated and my makeup sat nicely all day.

Summary I probably wouldn’t re-purchase this product only because I think it’s not suitable for my age-group. I do think it’s perfect for skin in the twenties and thirties. I will continue to use it but on days when my skin needs a little extra hydration and not a big lift!

You can take a look at it here £36 and check out what else Ren has to offer in this Keep Young And Beautiful range.

Have you tried any other skincare products from Ren? I’d love to hear about your experiences.

Votary Cleansing Oil – Rose Geranium and Apricot 100ml | secondblonde

FullSizeRender (31)If you haven’t already heard of this brand they launched September 2015. Votary is a skin care brand using plant oils and active ingredients. The products are all 100% natural suitable for all skin types including very sensitive. The range consists of cleansing oils, facial oils, toning serums and a box set of cotton face cloths.

Arabella Preston a former make-up artist founded the brand after experimenting in her kitchen mixing oils not only for her own skin but also for her clients. Most of which are interested in nutrition and concerned these days about what they are putting on their skin too. Skin guru Caroline Hirons is also a big fan read here her review last year. She also included it in her Most Used Products of 2015.

It’s avaiable exclusively at Libery London so if you missed it here’s a little post I wrote about the first time I met Arabella read here.

On to the product It comes in a box with a cotton face flannel which I think is a nice touch. My first thoughts about using an oil to cleanse with was that I may not like the feeling on my skin, or maybe it will leave an uncomfortable residue…HOW WRONG COULD I BE! This cleansing oil is such a delight to use, the whole experience is lovely and it delivers on what it promises –

a fantastic way to cleanse your face and remove make-up. It leaves your skin feeling clean, soft and plumped”

I’ve been using it at night as my first cleanse and in the morning as my only cleanse. For a make-up removal cleanse I need 4/5 pumps which I spread between my palms then press into my skin. I do a quick massage all over and do my eyes last as it lifts off even the most stubborn mascara so you obviously don’t want that all over your face. Then I use a hot wringed out flannel place it over my face to breathe in and enjoy the aroma of the oils. This is a really nice moment and worth doing. Then I take it off with the flannel doing a light exfoliation as I go and then pat dry with a towel.

For a morning cleanse I do the same as above but with less product, I normally only need 2/3 pumps.

Results What I really noticed immediately was how clean my face was and how nourished it felt without any oily residue…I didn’t feel like my skin desparartely needed moisture. After a few weeks I started getting comments like “oh but you’ve got lovely skin”

Summary I definitely think this is an amazing cleanser which I will continue to use. It is luxurious therefore it’s price reflects the quality of the ingredients so at £45 100ml it’s more of an investment purchase however in my opinion it’s worth every penny and it also lasts a long time as a little goes a long way.

You can buy yours at Liberty Beauty Hall

What cleansing oils have you tried? I’d love to hear about them.
