The Inkey List Hyaluronic Acid | secondblonde 2019

If you’ve not already heard about The Inkey List where have you been! They are British brand with two co-founders from a science marketing background which has led them to produce their own line of hero products which are simple to use and affordable yet with highly effective and quality ingredients.

They kindly sent me a few samples to try out – more of which later. First I was keen to try out the Hyaluronic Acid (great for all skin types and concerns) it’s my skin care daily staple right after cleansing.

Hyaluronic Acid is a powerful moisture-binding ingredient that works beneath the skin surface holding up to 1000 times it’s weight in water. Think juicy bouncy skin! Hyaluronic is naturally found in the skin to maintain hydration. Your hyaluronic acid levels gradually reduce over time (yes I’m there already) which can result in dullness, fine lines and uneven tone and texture. Hyaluronic acid works like a magnet for moisture helping your cells retain as much moisture as possible so that your skin feels and appears hydrated, plump and healthy.

The Inkey List Hyaluronic Acid is a clear serum which is easy to use, you only need a small amount for your whole face. I use mine as my first step after cleansing and layer with other active serums depending on what my skin needs. You can use it on it’s own as it doesn’t have that tight feeling you get from some once it’s dried in. (that’s because of it’s clever different molecular weights)

Here’s the science bit… 2% pure hyaluronic acid, low and high molecular weight to ensure penetration beneath the skin surface for maximum hydration, matrixyl 3000 to aid collagen production for an added plumping effect.

Of course it’s paraben and fragrance free and goes without saying cruelty free.

It’s my new favourite Hyaluronic Acid, if you’ve not added hyaluronic acid to your routine yet this will be a good place to start at only £4.99 for 30mls.

New Skin Care| secondblonde

Image-1 (1)

If you follow my Instagram TV Channel you will already know that I’ve recently been gifted these amazing products via a well known Beauty Journalist/skin care expert. She was clearing out her office and text me ahead of her hair appointment asking me if I’d like anything…Wow! how lucky am I. I haven’t gotten round to using them all yet however for the last 3 weeks I’ve been using the IT cosmetics cleanser daily:

IT Cosmetics Confidence In A Cleanser £24 – It’s great for a morning cleanse leaving my skin clean and soft however, I wouldn’t use it as my evening cleanse to remove make-up/dirt. It’s soap free and has a slight lather as you massage in on damp skin for 30 seconds, I flannel mine off – you can rise off. The smell reminds me of neroli which I like. It’s loaded with peptides, collagen, hyaluronic acid and antioxidants which in a cleanser I’m not sure if they will do anything as it’s only on your skin for seconds but i’m up for layering and hopefully this sets a good foundation to build on.

Here’s my first look on the rest…

ENVIRON Youth EssentiA Toner – A concentrated toner with a combination of peptides known to work together to help smooth the appearance of wrinkles. Antioxidants for firmer looking skin, together this will help uneven skin tones and a healthy glow. DR DES FERNANDES is the founder and creator of Environ Skincare company and Nadine Baggott is a big fan of his – watch her interview him here part 1 such a good watch if you are serious about skin care.

Elemis Pro-Collagen Cleansing Balm £43 – A deep cleansing balm that promises to dissolve make-up, daily grime and pollutants. Leaving skin intensely cleansed, nourished and renewed for a glowing complexion. I do love a cleansing balm and this one looks right up my street! It contains 9 essential oil so the smell is also like you’ve just stepped into a beautiful tranquil spa!

The Ordinary Resveratol 3% Ferulic Acid 3% £5.50 – This will be the first of The Ordinary products I will try. I’ve been curious about this range for some time, I’ve already got some Niod and Hylamide products that I’ve liked (if you don’t know these brands are all under the DECIEM brand that focuses on advanced functional beauty without all the bullshit) The founder Brandon Truaxe is a bit of a loose canon but in my opinion a complete genius!

I will let you guys know how I get on with this antioxidant serum.

Rodial Vit C Brightening Cleansing Pads £45 – Formulated with a fusion of pure Vitamin C, 0.5% salicylic acid and 1% fruit acid complex to re-texturise the complexion. I’ve never introduced this step to my routine before, I’ve dabbled with exfoliating tonics and I do occasionally use an exfoliating fluid at night. You can sweep these pads over your skin after cleansing – here’s what the ingredients promise to do…

  • Vitamin C: brightens and evens skin tone
  • 1% Fruit AHAs: boosts moisture levels in the skin and gently exfoliates
  • Glycolic and Lactic Acid: retextures and renews skin
  • 0.5% Salicylic Acid: refines pores to reduce and prevent blemishes

I’m gonna give them a go!

Seoulista Beauty Gold Glow Instant Facial Sheet Mask £14 – Created by dermatologists, the Gold Glow Instant Facial™ is a natural coconut, gel-like mask infused with a high-tech formula. Contains a powerful cocktail of over 7 botanical ingredients which work together to cleanse, brighten, and firm the skin.

After 20mins it’s promise is that skin appears firmer while wrinkles appear reduced, revealing a more rejuvenated and youthful-looking complexion. I’m all for sheet masks and quite up for trying out korean skincare, you could even go to bed with a sheet mask on (just pre-warn your other half!)

So that’s it, all my new beauty products to try – let me know if you’ve used any of these ranges I’d love to hear about your experiences. All of the products I have mentioned are all suitable for sensitive skin and concerns with anti-ageing.

7 Overnight Luxury Mini Essentials | SECONDBLONDE

FullSizeRender (25)When it comes to packing an overnight bag size and weight are always a priority however I do always like to take a little luxury with me. That’s when I delve through my mini shopping basket (from Flying Tiger Stores) which houses all the samples I’ve collected. Sadly most are un-used due to some of the iconic products looking too damn cute to use! (well that’s just me being silly)

On a recent trip to the coast to see my parents these are what I choose to take along in addition to my usual make-up bag and face cleanser – bath & hair products all supplied by mum. In no particular order here’s an overview of what’s in my bag:

Aurelia Botanical Cream Deodorant – A natural cream to powder formula that’s fragrance is Tea Tree, Peppermint, Lavender, Eucalyptus. I’m not totally sold but like the idea of a totally natural alternative. It smells fantastic fresh and feels dry.

Aromatherapy Associates Inner Strength Recovery Moisturiser – A soothing and calming light cream perfect for sensitive skin and great under tinted moisturiser. It smells like you’ve just walked into a relaxing spa.

NARS Velvet Matte Skin Tint – Perfect tinted moisturiser that has great coverage and keeps me shine free all day! And it has an SPF 30

Benefit High Beam – An oldie but a goldie, my go-to luminescent complex enhancer that I dot on my high check bones and blend up and outwards. Also great to blend a dot on either side of the bridge of your nose in the inner corner of your eye to brighten and look less tired.

Dr Sebagh Rose de Vie – You know how much I love Dr Sebagh serums/creams. This is perfect before bed, it’s very calming and smells devine. It’s like giving yourself a mini facial. I always wake up with replenished plumped up looking skin after using this.

Aurelia Aromatic Repair & Brighten Hand Cream – You may already know how much I love this luxury anti-ageing hand cream. If you missed it you can read my write up on it here.

Plum by Mary Greenwell – This perfume has recently been discontinued which is such a shame. Hence why I decided to purchase a couple of full size bottles which were delivered with a few samples – very handy. It’s a classic chypre with a modern twist, uncomplicated chic, sensual and warm. Perfect from day to evening.

There you go my 7 little luxuries that made it into my overnight bag.

Omorovicza Reviving Eye Cream | secondblonde

FullSizeRender (22)

I’ve been using this Reviving Eye Cream by Omorovicza for a few months now and as far as eye creams go, I’m really really happy with the results.

The Ormorovicza story is a beautiful one as the founders Stephen and Margaret found the Budapest ancient spa’s Moor Mud as well as Love – read their story here. Margaret is such a lovely woman beautiful on the inside and outside – I was lucky enough to meet and chat with her and tell her how much I loved her cleansing balm while I worked in Liberty Beauty. She was so inspiring.

FullSizeRender (21)

Being a luxurious brand it comes boxed – the detail of the inside of the box is cute. The bottle is frosted glass with the description and logo in silver. The pump applicator perfectly dispenses the correct amount of product which you can twist shut. It feels very comfortable in my hand to use, the size is 15ml which I’ve been using every morning for a few months and only used a quarter of the product.

On to the product itself, it’s a very light cream which absorbs into the skin really quickly. Great for me as I use it every morning so I’m often rushing. I use two pumps which I divide between both under eye area’s tapping in from corner to corner – any excess I tap it over my eyelids.

It smells of fresh cucumbers – don’t let that put you off as it’s very subtle and natural with no synthetic ingredients. It contains Vitamin K which reduces dark circles, arnica to reduce puffiness. Hazelnut peptides for a plumping effect and firmer skin. It’s powered by a potent blend of Hungary’s mineral-rich healing waters and their patented Hydro Mineral Transference™ delivery system. This is combined with the finest vitamins, essential oils and natural ingredients sourced from across the globe.

The results are amazing. It wakes up my tired eye’s in the morning in particular when I have puffy hay fever eyes. Although it is very light it hydrates my eye area for the whole day and creates a nice base for my tinted moisturiser. This keeps my eye’s looking youthful and fresh as it plumps up my fine lines. I also haven’t looked in the mirror lately and noticed any dark circles – so it must be working!

I would highly recommend this eye cream, it is quite pricey so it will be a beauty splurge buy but in my opinion worth every penny. Actually when you breakdown the cost daily it’s about 28p per application which now no longer sounds pricey at all!

Gel Lab Pro | AW16 “Wild Thing” | Deborah Lippmann

img_9227

I fancied a change to my usual choice of colour and opted for a deep sea green/blue colour by Deborah Lippmann. It’s called Wild Thing and is from the new AW16 collection of the Gel Lab Pro range.

My first choice of winter nails will always be a berry/wine shade – much like the iconic shade of Rouge Noir by Chanel, Famously worn by Uma Thurman in the cult film Pulp fiction (which happens to be one of my all time favs) Anyway I’m rambling, back to the current…

The formula of DL Gel Lab Pro polish is perfect, the colour is very pigmented, the application brush is a flat one which I don’t love as I find it to be quite wide making it difficult to get close to the nail bed and sides. I prefer a round brush. The colour is nice and dark after two coats I really love it! It’s much darker than how it looks in the bottle and that’s a good thing.

The finish is high shine and the icing on the cake is that it’s free from 7 nasties. In fact here is a list of all the good ingredients to deliver health, wear and shine:

Health – biotin, keratin, aucoumea, rice protein, evening primrose, green tea extract

Wear – bamboo, nonychosine f

Shine – nylon, carnauba wax

My Verdict This luxury nail product lives up to it’s expectations. I used the DL Hard Rock nail strengthener base and top coat. Just one of my nails had a very slight chip after 3 days wear (which I patched up) however the rest of my nails continued to look good and chip free for 6 days. Today is day 7 and they have started wearing off on the tips and I have a nail bed regrowth as my nails grow pretty quick.

I really like this nail polish, check it out online here and use code DAZZLE and get 15% off your order.

Magic Multi-Purpose Oil; Goe Oil 85g |secondblonde

IMG_6009

I’ve completely fallen in love with Goe Oil by Jao Brand. It’s a 100% natural semi-solid all over body oil that turns to a liquid when slightly warmed between your hands, it smells gorgeous as it is lightly scented with Monoi Tiare from Tahiti.

What’s in it? It contains 28 plant, fruit, flower oils & butters as follows…

Jojoba Butter, Sunflower Oil, Jojoba Oil, Rice Bran Oil, Avocado Butter, Grape Seed Butter, Grape Seed Oil, Cocoa Butter, Meadowfoam Seed Oil, Rose Hip Oil, Soy Lecithin, Pumpkin Seed Butter, Mango Butter, Cupuacu Butter, Avocado Oil, Shea Butter, Hemp Seed Oil, Kukuinut Oil, Chamomile Oil, Beeswax, Calendula Oil, Essential Oils, Tocopherol, Vitamin E, Acetate, Rosemary Extra

It’s a multi-tasking product you can use from head to toe, their tagline on their packaging is “HANDS. HAIR. BODY & SOUL” which couldn’t be more true.

Verdict It keeps my skin soft and hydrated all day and is also great for spot applying on dry patches. Some use it as an intensive hair mask which I think will suit very course/curly or frizzy hair which soaks up moisture like a sponge. I tend to use a very tiny amount on dry hair to tame my fly-aways.

* Watch my YouTube review of Goe Oil here

Summary I love this product and already have my second tube ready to go. It costs £35 so it’s not cheap however well worth every penny and a very little goes a long long way, you can buy your here

A customer I recommended it to at work came back two weeks later to personally thank me as she had received so many compliments on the overall look of her skin and being asked “what are you wearing” due to the soft scent. She also has long luscious ringlet naturally curly hair and this has defined her curls making her hair look healthier and shiny. This feedback made my day!

Jao Brand have been kind enough to send me their lip-balm and skin cream to try out what a lucky girl I am! keep posted for my review of them soon.

Thank you for reading, let me know if you’ve tried this oil or any similar as I’d love to hear from you.

Review: Kiehl’s Centella Skin-Calming Facial Cleanser

image2 (1)

I was on the hunt for a new gentle cleanser as in the colder months my skin is prone to feeling sensitive with the occasional itchy red flare up. After my shift at work I pop to the Kiehl’s counter in our Beauty Hall to get some expert advice.

Following an informal skin consultation with a very knowledgeable cool looking dude (great hair) I was recommended to use the Centella Skin-Calming Facial Cleanser. So straight to the till I go with my £5 beauty loyalty voucher excited to try it out later that night.

image3

It’s very light weight and free of all nasties and of course soap free/alcohol-free, it’s perfect for sensitive skin as it’s comforting and gentle leaving your skin moisturised.

The formula contains:  Aloe Vera – to soften and smooth.  Chamomile to comfort and soothe.  Centella Asiatica (Tiger Herb) for antibacterial and anti-psoriatic effects. *In the wild tigers with wounds rub against this plant for it’s healing properties.

After just one use my skin feels calm, moisturised and very clean without feeling tight. (I use this as my first step in a double cleanse) The formula is that of a creamy translucent gel with no scent, you can use on dry skin and cotton off or damp skin and flannel off. I always flannel off to double up as a gentle exfoliation. It’s non-sticky and non-foaming so my skin absolutely loves it, I am happy to say that this is my perfect winter facial cleanser, so the guy (who I must go back and thank) on the Kiehl’s counter was spot on! You can get yours from Liberty here.

Have you tried any of Kiehl’s facial cleansers? I would love to hear about them.

A little TLC for your hair: Bumble and bumble Hairdresser’s INVISIBLE OIL Shampoo & Conditioner

Bumble and bumble’s Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil shampoo and conditioner are renowned for being lightweight, non-greasy and sulphate free.

I don’t use Bb’s shampoo and conditioner on a regular basis however I absolutely LOVE these for when my hair needs a moisture boost, in particular following a colour session.

To start with they smell absolutely gorgeous and I find them to be highly nourishing without weighing down my fine brittle hair. It must be down to the 6 scrumptious featherlight oils they contain, yes that’s right 6!!! coconut oil, argan oil, macadamia but oil, sweet almond oil, safflower seed oil and grapeseed oil.

After using these my hair always feels soft and nourished without looking greasy. They are great at detangling my comb glides through my wet hair like a hot knife through butter. Hair is at it’s most fragile when wet, it’s easy to cause damage if you are tugging and pulling.

*Top Tip* Shampoo your hair as soon as you step into the shower and apply your conditioner – then proceed to cleanse your body/exfoliate and whatever else it is you do in the shower!

Always make rinsing your hair out to be your last job, this way you’ve given your conditioner time to penetrate and allow the steam of the shower to work it’s magic! If you can bear it finish with a cool rinse to add extra shine to your hair and wake up your skin!

Give them a try from £23 here

Dr Sebagh Magic Soothing Rose de Vie Serum Délicat 30ml

IMG_9328.PNG

IMG_9327.PNG

IMG_9329.PNGThe Promise:
A silky serum which leaves a protective film to restore the skins suppleness, contains organic rose hip oil, anti ageing and anti oxident ingredients to reduce redness, protect and smooth the skin.

My Verdict:
Ok I get it that’s it’s a very luxurious product which comes in a glass bottle with a pipette applicator which I really love and looks great on my dressing table but what’s with all the packaging? It’s comes in a pretty soft pink cardboard sleeve over the top of a two part sturdy glossy white box. It all looks beautiful but so unnecessary as it’s going straight in my recycle box.

On to the product, this light non-greasy serum is truly magical it’s no wonder it has gained a few celebrity fans and is a hit amongst the beauty journalists. It’s really really good at calming and moisturising irritable skin. I often have little flare ups of red itchy skin, when I massage in a few drops of this amazing potion my skin is immediately calm and hydrated like magic!

It can be applied morning and night however I tend to use it for emergency skin flare up’s due to the fact it’s quite pricey, although you do get what you pay for and in this case it delivers on all expectations.

It’s so light it can be applied under your moisturiser and make-up without any oily residue, actually it helps your make-up look fresher and stay put for longer. The smell….oh my it’s sooooo lovely, soft and pretty it reminds me of real traditional rose Turkish delight, it’s very delicate and calming. Those who aren’t fans of “rose” smelling products I’m pretty sure your’ll fall in love with this one. My skin is calm with no inflammations or itchy patches and very supple. It also works well when you add a few drops to your moisturiser.

It is a splurge at £129 here but I will say it’s worth every penny! Mine will last a year as I only use when I feel my skin needs it, I simply love it!

Have you tried any of Dr Sebagh’s award winning products? Would love to hear about them.
