The Konjac Sponge Co-100% Vegetable Fibre Face Sponge | secondblonde

The Konjac Sponge Co produce 100% biodegradable vegetable fibre sponge’s with a unique net-like structure. This gently massages the skin to stimulate blood flow and cell turnover and removes all traces of dirt and make-up with or without any cleanser. There are different options available depending on your skin type/needs. I’m trying out the Pink Clay enriched one which is best for dry and mature skin.

What is Konjac? Made from Konjac Potato or Konnyaku, first discovered in the Indochinese region that has been used for 1,500 years as a medicinal, food, dieting and beauty product. Naturally alkaline and pH neutral it leaves skin perfectly balanced for radiant skin. Gentle enough for sensitive skins and babies, the pure Konjac Sponges are the ultimate in natural, effective skin care.

How To Use It Rinse your Konjac Sponge in warm water, squeeze it out and gently cleanse your skin. (when it’s dry it shrinks and feels hard with an uneven surface, when hydrated it expands to a smooth round dome shape that feels soft on your skin) I like using circular movements, the sponge fits nicely into the palm of your hand. You don’t need to use a cleanser but can add a small amount if desired.

After use rinse your sponge well, and allow to dry in an airy place between uses. It has a handy little string loop to hang it up, I hang mine in my shower. It will last for about 3 months and then you need to replace it. You can add it to your garden compost after use.

Summary I really love using this natural sponge, I tend to use it in the mornings when I don’t have any make-up to remove. I use it without cleanser to give my face a nice gentle exfoliation and massage – feels so good. Then I use a cleanser which I remove in my usual way with a warm face flannel. I’m quite sure my skin is looking brighter since using it.

I will definitely re-purchase this sponge and try out some of the other types, in fact my husband tried it and loved it so I’ve got one for him too! Check them out here

It’s a Miracle! SOAP AND GLORY 5-in-1 Micellar Cleansing Water – DRAMA CLEAN™

Dubbed “miracle water” I needed a new cleanser and as I like the freshness of a toner thought I’d give this a try. It claims to remove ALL make-up including the most stubborn mascara in one “no rubbing required” swish of a well saturated cotton wool ball.

IMG_6567.JPGIt also removes dirt and impurities in one clean sweep. There is no-need-to-rinse, it’s oil-free and non-drying, a complete face and eye-makeup-removing marvel is surely the smart-girl’s way to get skin super clean.

Here’s the science bit
(what’s in it that makes it work)
D.CLOG™ WATER – micellar cleansing technology swiftly ‘magnetises’ make-up, dirt and dead cells away.
GO-JUICE™ – with vitamins A and C rich peach and goji berry extracts to help soften skin.
Cool cucumber waterjuice – refreshes and revitalises.
Botanical cornflower extract – calms the delicate eye area.
Aloe vera leaf juice – marvellously soothing and moisturising.
Paraben free
Soap alcohol free
For all skin types

IMG_2798.JPGI’ve been using this for four weeks and have been impressed with its performance. It removes every last scrap of make up without giving me panda eyes, leaving my skin feeling clean, non oily, fresh and does not dry out my skin. I always use this after I’ve washed my face, I use Soap and Glory’s Face Soap & Clarity which I posted about back in 2011 read here.

IMG_2799.JPGThe flip lid is easy to use when you are in a rush, quickly snapping it shut to prevent any spillage, and just the right amount can be applied to your cotton wool ball/pad without it flooding out. The liquid is clear but looks oh so pretty on my dressing table in it’s pink tinted container keeping in line with Soap & Glorys design. The smell I wasn’t too keen on, I love the freshness of cucumber and the sweetness of ripe peach but together!?! At least it’s very subtle and not over powering so I’ve gotten used to it and actually don’t mind it now.

IMG_2797.JPGMy conclusion is that I’m enjoying this product, it does what it claims to do, I haven’t suffered any dry or oily patches while using it and it leaves my skin feeling smooth. At £6 for 200ml I’m quite likely to re-purchase when it’s finished.

Check out Soap and Glory here.

Beauty on a Budget

It’s that time of year when we all over spent at Christmas and New Year and feeling the pinch awaiting the very long 5 week payday! So when my usual facial wash by Soap and Glory £9 needed replacing I thought I would choose a cheaper option!

Scouring the shelves in boots for something under a a fiver…bingo there it is and for only £3.65 150ml.

NIVEA Visage Gentle Cleansing Cream Wash (from the daily essentials range)

Packaging is appealing the tube has a Matt feel and the pink shade is feminine and inviting, not medical looking like some high street brands.

It feels creamy and luxurious with tiny gentle rounded beads. The smell is what you expect from Nivea, just a really nice cream smell, if you know what I mean! It applies with ease and rinses off well, leaving your skin feeling clean yet moisturised. If you like the squeaky clean shiny face result then this is not for you!

My skin feels like I do not need to apply moisturiser and after 4 uses it’s sorted out my dry patches from winter skin.

Benefits:
It purifies and smoothes for a soft skin feeling with Almond & Calendula Oil.
Helps skin stay soft and supple all day.

Conclusion:
I will definitely recommend this product and re-purchase. It’s also going to go in my “best beauty under a fiver” edit.
