L’Oreal Extraordinary Oil – Facial Cleansing Oil | secondblonde

FullSizeRender (18)If you are a regular reader you will know that I really like using cleansing oil’s and balms for my daily cleansing routine. I have a mix of luxury brands and high street brands. I base my reviews on the performance of the product in relevance to it’s ingredients/price point and my expectations. For instance I wouldn’t expect a cleansing oil costing under £8 to provide an aromatherapy like experience for the senses of that of a  pure high grade plant oil cleanser costing £45.

I popped into Boot’s on the Kings Road in my lunch break to grab a bottle of water – there was a queue so I started to browse the skincare shelves and saw this Facial Cleansing Oil from the L’oreal Extraordinary Oil range and it was on offer. Seeing as my lastest cleansing oil was on it’s last dregs I thought I’d try it…

FullSizeRender (19)The bottle is a comfortable shape to hold in your hand and easy to squirt out 3 pumps into your palm. I them rub together with my other palm and massage into my face using the flats of my palms. I find this to be the easiest way, using fingertips always gets too messy for me.

The texture is oily but light and not greasy at all, the smell is quite synthetic (what you should expect for the price point) however it is a pleasant fresh fruity smell quite like subtle oranges.

Sometime’s I just rinse it  off as it’s light enough to do so but mostly I flannel off to give my skin a light exfoliation.  As it’s promise on the back of the bottle “beyond makeup removal” it does live up to it’s claim.

It leaves my skin clean, eye makeup free, feeling fresh and nourished and not screaming out for moisturiser immediately. Also to my surprise it doesn’t sting my eyes.

FullSizeRender (17)Overall I am really impressed with this facial cleansing oil – a little goes a long way and it’s such good value even at full price it’s only £7.99 I got mine on offer at £5.29! I will buy this cleansing oil again, I have it to hand in the shower and my husband has also used it a few times and liked it too.

Malin+Goetz Facial Cleansing Oil | Secondblonde

FullSizeRender (49)

MALIN+GOETZ was launched in 2004 a family owned and run apothecary in New York and London. I got to know the brand and meet the founders while I worked in beauty at Liberty. The brand is simple to use and focus on sensitive skin.

I’ve been using the Facial Cleansing Oil daily for about 3 weeks and absolutely love it! It’s an all in one cleansing oil including grapeseed, avocado and olive oil blended with lavender and eucalyptus, chamomile and anti-oxidants. This all ensures your skin is hydrated, calm, balanced and protected but above all clean and fresh.

My Experience I use at night time as it’s great to remove all the dirt and grime of the day plus it’s a great make-up remover including stubborn mascara. I do two pumps into my palms and massage into my skin (dry skin) it glides so effortlessly and feels so luxurious making something which seems like a chore become a little pamper session.

I start with my cheeks using the palms of my hands, then move onto my nose, forehead, chin and then my eyes/brows last (as it’s normally the messiest bit) It removes every last bit of my makeup and I use a wet flannel to remove. Once I pat my skin dry it feels and looks clean, soft and hydrated without any residue ready for an active serum and moisturser.

Mine was a gift however, I think it’s worth the price tag due to the quality of the ingredients and results, also not to mention that a very little goes a long way! Take a look here 118ml £30

Votary Cleansing Oil – Rose Geranium and Apricot 100ml | secondblonde

FullSizeRender (31)If you haven’t already heard of this brand they launched September 2015. Votary is a skin care brand using plant oils and active ingredients. The products are all 100% natural suitable for all skin types including very sensitive. The range consists of cleansing oils, facial oils, toning serums and a box set of cotton face cloths.

Arabella Preston a former make-up artist founded the brand after experimenting in her kitchen mixing oils not only for her own skin but also for her clients. Most of which are interested in nutrition and concerned these days about what they are putting on their skin too. Skin guru Caroline Hirons is also a big fan read here her review last year. She also included it in her Most Used Products of 2015.

It’s avaiable exclusively at Libery London so if you missed it here’s a little post I wrote about the first time I met Arabella read here.

On to the product It comes in a box with a cotton face flannel which I think is a nice touch. My first thoughts about using an oil to cleanse with was that I may not like the feeling on my skin, or maybe it will leave an uncomfortable residue…HOW WRONG COULD I BE! This cleansing oil is such a delight to use, the whole experience is lovely and it delivers on what it promises –

a fantastic way to cleanse your face and remove make-up. It leaves your skin feeling clean, soft and plumped”

I’ve been using it at night as my first cleanse and in the morning as my only cleanse. For a make-up removal cleanse I need 4/5 pumps which I spread between my palms then press into my skin. I do a quick massage all over and do my eyes last as it lifts off even the most stubborn mascara so you obviously don’t want that all over your face. Then I use a hot wringed out flannel place it over my face to breathe in and enjoy the aroma of the oils. This is a really nice moment and worth doing. Then I take it off with the flannel doing a light exfoliation as I go and then pat dry with a towel.

For a morning cleanse I do the same as above but with less product, I normally only need 2/3 pumps.

Results What I really noticed immediately was how clean my face was and how nourished it felt without any oily residue…I didn’t feel like my skin desparartely needed moisture. After a few weeks I started getting comments like “oh but you’ve got lovely skin”

Summary I definitely think this is an amazing cleanser which I will continue to use. It is luxurious therefore it’s price reflects the quality of the ingredients so at £45 100ml it’s more of an investment purchase however in my opinion it’s worth every penny and it also lasts a long time as a little goes a long way.

You can buy yours at Liberty Beauty Hall

What cleansing oils have you tried? I’d love to hear about them.

The Day I met Votary Founder Arabella Preston

FullSizeRender (18)

Votary launched last September and lucky me it’s exclusive at work Liberty Beauty Hall

The range is all plant based ingredients, in addition to their performance the smell of each one plays an important part too, it’s a whole experience. The Face Oils have different qualities and effects on the skin but also can be up-lifting or calming, or you can just choose one to suit your mood! The Cleansing oil is rose, geranium and apricot, oh you have to come ad smell this beautiful range in stunning green glass bottles with their rose gold labels just to believe how special they look and feel.

If you follow Caroline Hirons  you are probably familiar with these products, Caroline added the Cleansing Oil to her “most used products of 2015” view here

I haven’t had the chance to try out this fabulous range of face oils, cleansing oil or their newest addition the toning serum yet but they are high on my WISH LIST (full review coming soon)

I did however get to spend the whole day assisting Arabella (founder) at an event at work, she’s so lovely and funny, we did have a little giggle… and of course very knowledgeable about skin care and make-up (we also know a few industry people in common) I felt completely privileged to hear all her skin/make-up tips first hand. Ever since I’m using a little trick she recommended when you “flannel off” your cleanser and I’ve started adding a little eye-liner to my upper lid water line for a subtle look to make your eye’s pop, one of Arabella’s many make-up tips. Her favourite make-up brands include Hourglass, Bobbi Brown, Nars and Mac.

Here’s a pic from Arabella’s instagram the day she was at Liberty, did I mention how pretty she is too, her legs go on for miles, she’s like a model.
